Chargers Walk Off With Sweep of Rock Valley After 4-Run 7th

The Carl Sandburg College baseball team plated four runs in the seventh inning of Game 2 to complete a sweep of Rock Valley on Friday afternoon at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

Key Moment
The Chargers put up a touchdown in the bottom of the first as seven of the first eight batters collected hits. Cam Scott (Mapleton, Ill./Illini Bluffs) hit the first of his two homers in the game, and Brett Marsh (Mapleton, Ill./Limestone) delivered the biggest blow, a grand slam to right for a 7-0 lead.

Sandburg Standout
Cam Scott hit a two-run homer in the first and added a solo shot in the sixth. The shortstop went 2 for 3 with a walk and three RBIs.

Key Moment
Trailing 6-3 with one out in the seventh, the Chargers (4-13) closed the game with six consecutive batters reaching base. Cam Scott singled before a Johnson homer to left brought Sandburg within a run. A walk, single and hit-by-pitch loaded the bases before a passed ball brought home Israel with the tying run. An intentional walk to marsh loaded the bases once again, and then Wynn Takacs (Tipton, Ind./Taylor) came home with the game-winner on a wild pitch.

Sandburg Standout
Israel earned the win in relief after striking out seven and allowing just one hit in three scoreless innings.
